Armstrong Ceilings
“At Armstrong, we are committed to protecting forests and to promoting responsible forest management practices,” said Frank Ready, president and CEO -- Armstrong North American Floor Products.
Armstrong requires its wood suppliers to adhere to all applicable laws and regulations, including those covering raw materials and labor. Less than five percent of the Company’s wood purchases come from tropical forests. In those instances, Armstrong requires suppliers to produce documentation verifying their adherence to national and international rules and regulations governing specific tropical wood species. As a founding member of the USGBC, Armstrong participated in the development of the LEED rating system. Our company incorporated the LEED criteria in the design and construction of our corporate headquarters building located at our Innovation Center campus in Lancaster, PA.

Atlas Insulating Sheathing

More than 5 years ago, Atlas began to convert production from HCFC-containing products
that deplete the ozone to HCFC-free products that do not. Every product manufactured in our
converted plants is CFC and HCFC-free.
ACFoam-II roof insulation contains between 16% and 43% recycled materials by weight, depending
on thickness. Since the facers are made 100% of recycled materials (55% post-consumer,
45% post-industrial), the thinner the product, the higher the recycled content.

Roseburg produces several plywood and lumber products that have been environmentally certified by one of the world's most accepted third-party certification organizations, FSC (Forest Stewardship Council). FSC is an independent, not-for-profit organization with a diverse membership representing environmental, business, and social interests globally. SmartWood, the primary certifying organization for FSC, has evaluated and certified that Roseburg's forestry operations meet international environmental standards through appropriate conservation of the forest's economic resources.

MiraTEC Exterior Trim products

CMI's Environmentally Responsible Manufacturing.

All CMI products - CraftMaster® molded door facings, MiraTEC® Trim and Extira® Treated Exterior Panels - are made from trees that can't be used to make dimension lumber (the kind used for furniture and homebuilding), and wood by-products from a variety of sources. No old growth timber is harvested to make these products. CMI uses a low VOC primer on MiraTEC and CraftMaster, which is better for the environment. Extira is not a finished (painted) product.

Nordic Engineered Wood

Wood offers the combination of energy efficiency and renewability unlike any other building material. No other natural resource can be as cost effective, yet as good for the environment as wood. And, as technology improves, we are able to retrieve more viable fiber from the tree than ever before. In fact, the production of engineered wood products is one of the most effective uses of wood fiber available today. Just looking at an I-joist cross-section shows how much less wood fiber is required to outspan traditional lumber and, with Nordic I-joists, every piece is 100% usable, unlike dimensional lumber. Optimizing fiber in this fashion is necessary if we are to maintain a viable resource base for future generations to rely on.
Every year, over 200 employees engage intensive operations on over 2 million acres in our forestry management program. Refined cutting and felling techniques minimize the impact on natural regeneration. Internal initiatives, such as the establishment of an Environmental management system that has been certified ISO-14001, assure minimal environmental impact by preventing erosion and runoff, while pre-thinning reduces competition for available nutrients. Nordic achieves all these goals without the use of clear-cutting methods long associated with the lumber industry. Nordic's responsible forest management program assures biodiversity in the woodlands with new, middle-aged and mature trees perpetuating a constant growth cycle. Nordic’s team of technicians and engineers has developed proprietary processes that allow us to extract wood fiber from traditionally undesirable log segments. Nordic’s featured process makes use of tree tips that had traditionally been left in the forest as waste. This exceptionally strong all-heart fiber now makes up the core of our glulam beams and columns. It’s just another example of Nordic’s commitment to the proper stewardship of the environment.

TimberTech

TimberTech composite decking and railing products offer an attractive, low-maintenance, extremely durable and cost-effective alternative to popular and often chemically treated woods like redwood and cedar. And, because TimberTech products will not splinter, warp or fade the way wood does, they dramatically reduce the wasteful cycle of repair and replacement – and eliminate the frequent application of paint, sealers and stains that could be potentially harmful to the environment.
* TimberTech wood composite products are manufactured with recycled wood waste that would otherwise go into landfills.
* TimberTech recycles water (during the manufacturing process) through a closed loop water system.
* Skids, corrugate and product dust are recycled.
* Unlike wood, TimberTech products are a one-time purchase for most homeowners – with a limited 25-year residential warranty.
* TimberTech products do not require painting, staining or sealing.
* Scrap products are reclaimed and put back into the manufacturing process.
All of these qualities are not only better for the environment, they actually enhance a home’s performance and appearance – reducing maintenance costs – thereby raising its overall value.

Transolid

Transolid materials promote healthy indoor air quality. All Transolid materials are inert products that do not emitvolatile organic compounds (VOCs) during or after installation.Transolid materials are non-porous, non-toxic, and nonallergenic.Transolid® Solid Surface and Natural Quartz are non-porous materials. Any toxins and materials that sit on the surface will not be absorbed and re-released into the air (which could compromise the quality of the indoor air environment). In addition, the lack of porosity makes these materials stain-resistant, so they will have a much longer life-cycle. Transolid materials can help satisfy the requirements of good green-building practices, including everal LEED credits.
